Meet "Birden." He or maybe she might actually qualify as our first pet ahead of the fish. Since last year, this bird as spent the ENTIRE Spring CONSTANTLY, and I mean CONSTANTLY, pecking at his reflection in the window above our front door. He was here so much last year that we gave him the name "Birden" (for the kids) and spelled "Burden" for me and Scott. And what do you know, he showed up again this year and has been pecking away for over a month now. This year we even started to feel a bit sad for Birden, living his life pecking away aimlessly at a non-existent other bird, never seeming to eat or even leave our front window. Turns out we were wrong - Birden does have a lady friend that he apparently invited to spend some quality time in our front door wreath. Now, we have TWO "Burdens" that hang around guarding their nest of FIVE eggs that sits on the very top of the wreath on our front door! The kids are thrilled and Scott and I have been trying to figure out if we can somehow move it (which we probably won't). Not sure how long this whole hatching process will take, but I do know that once the babies hatch they sit in their nest for at least 2 weeks, chirping and pooping all day long! Should look nice on our white front door. I imagine there will be an update to this post in a few weeks - I do hope they survive for the kids' sake. Should be interesting!

You say "Birden," and I say "Burden"
