Dallas Trip

watching the airplanes land at Lovefield behind my sister's apartment complex - a big hit with caleb!
Dallas World Aquarium!

Aaron got to try to feed these birds blueberries out of his hand!

Old Roomies!

My mom and I braved the 5-hour car ride with my three kids to Dallas this past weekend. It was a fun weekend catching up with old college friends and my sister & her fam who now lives in Dallas. The car trip went pretty well considering Leah did not sleep long at all in the car - she was a trooper! On the way home Caleb did repeatedly say "Mommy, can you get me out?" but all in all a good car trip and an even better time of visiting friends and seeing the kids and their cousins play together. We will be back for sure!

Backyard Project

after shot

2nd level before shots

more after shots

When we moved into our house 12 days before Leah was born last year, we knew the backyard would be a major project since it was entirely rock. The week we brought Leah home from the hospital the rock and sod project (phase 1) started. And, finally, in May this year phase 2 began as we had work done on our massive waste of space on top of the retaining wall. Scott drew up the plans and it was so neat to see our vision come to life - we now have a large patio space up top, pergola, picnic table area and plans for phase 3 which include a putting green for, I mean the boys. We are pleased with the result and have gotten plenty of use out of the new space already. We also planted a bunch of plants in the middle of a drought so if you can't get a hold of us just assume we are out back hand-watering our new landscape. My favorite part of the whole patio is of course the kids hand prints - not the clearest pic but they are there!

4th of July

Attempt to get a pic of all 3 looking at camera during the parade was pointless...

Leah LOVED the parade! And she looked awfully cute too I might say!

Thumbsucking at the parade - hopefully we don't have a pic like this in 5 years.

Leah was the only one feeling like posing for pics this day.

We had a great 4th of July. Our long weekend consisted of a major landscaping project which I post pics of later so we were definitely busy every hour of the weekend. We also somehow managed to host two different cookouts at our house. Busy! The kids enjoyed a 4th of July parade on Monday morning and we had fantastic fireworks that night. It is so fun to get to see all of these things through their eyes - Leah just clapped and clapped during the parade and Caleb gave a us play by play on the color of every single firework during the show and Aaron took it upon himself to count each firework (I think he stopped after 25 or so...) All in all and very fun weekend!

VBS Week

Twelve hours after we got back into town from our very relaxing anni trip, we were up at church for for the start of Vacation Bible School. Why or why did I not plan for the vacation trip to be after VBS??? VBS was a great and exhausting week. This was my first year to serve as a tribe leader which meant I had 16 kids ages 4 - 10 to be responsible for (with the help the help of two great teenage assistants - thank the Lord!) It was so great to be Aaron's teacher this year and he has already requested me for next year - hopefully that will be something he continues to want! Caleb even got to participate fully in VBS with the 2 - 3 year old class and thought he was pretty big stuff! And sweet Leah took her 2 hour nap without a fuss each & every morning in the nursery which was so great for setting up the rest of day to be a "normal" day. It was a great week, but I would highly recommend the relaxation to have been planned for after all this craziness.

Anniversary Trip

our hike at Inn of the Mountain Gods since the National Forest was closed to all activity due to fire danger
only pic of the 2 of us together - not the best but it is documented.

We drove over to Lincoln, NM - home of the Lincoln County Wars which the movie Young Guns is based on - it is claimed to be one of the oldest, in tact old-west towns in America.

Scott and I celebrated our 10th anniversary with a trip back to our honeymoon location - Ruidoso, NM. It was a wonderful time of relaxation and sleeping in as long as we wanted and going out to eat with no worries of kids acting up. We loved the views from our cabin and spent many hours out on the deck - very nice! Our kids stayed 2 nights with Scott's parents and 2 nights with my parents - such a blessing to have both sets of grandparents in the same town. They tell us the kids did great so we take that to mean we should schedule another trip soon! :)
